Social Networking @ EPS

Social Media refers to the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into an interactive dialogue.Social media is defined as "a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content.
"Social media are media for social interaction, as a super set beyond social communication. Enabled by ubiquitously accessible and scalable communication techniques, social media substantially change the way of communication between organizations, communities, as well as individuals.

The IBVC offers IB stakeholders the ability to connect, communicate and collaborate with one another. Tools offered within the IBVC include blogs, wikis, discussion forums, file uploading (documents, images, audio and video), individual profiles, the ability to form groups and other social networking functionality.  For more information and a screencast tour, please visit http://ibo.epals.com.

A gradual roll out of the IBVC begins today, August 30, with the aim of making the platform accessible as a tool to most of our IB MYP and DP schools and PYP, MYP and DP teachers over the next couple of years. The IBVC is also available for IB Alumni and other IB-affiliated volunteers and educators. This platform marks an important additional service for the IB community and we believe the combination of technical, legal and social considerations built into the IBVC is quite innovative for the educational sector.

The site will be able in French and Spanish from late October 2010.

The IBVC has been developed in partnership with ePals, Inc., (www.epals.com ) an education technology company that offers K-12 schools, teachers, students and parents a safe and secure global online communications and collaboration solution.  IBVC members will be able to extend their learning experiences with the ePals Global Community™ that consists of more than 600,000 educators and reaches more than 25 million students and parents in 200 countries and territories.

Students and teachers: if your school is interested in joining the IBVC, please contact the IBVC team at ibvc@ibo.org. We will contact you about possible scheduling options.  Alumni: please visit http://ibo.epals.com to register.
